The Belgian international was left behind as Chelsea jetted off to Singapore on their pre-season tour as he continues his recovery.
The winger suffered a broken ankle on international duty with Belgium in June in a freak training ground accident and is not expected to return to action until September.
After much deliberation, it was eventually decided that the player needed surgery, ruling out of the start of the new campaign.
However, it appears he has taken a big step forward in his recovery after uploading a video to his Instagram account showing him performing ball work and agility drills at Chelsea's Cobham training ground.
