It was an exciting game in Merseyside on Sunday, with both teams going into the fixture with unbeaten runs to protect. Jurgen Klopp's side were undefeated in their last 13 league fixtures while Pep Guardiola's squad were yet to suffer a loss in the Premier League this season.
The encounter ended 4-3 to the home side, which didn't entirely reflect the immense pressure Liverpool put the 'Sky Blues' under - a tactic which other teams should utilise when facing the Premier League leaders.
The 'Reds' attacking approach and high-energy asked a lot of City's defense who failed to step up to the mark, making numerous sloppy errors which allowed their opponents to take the lead.
The key appears to be getting the other side of Fernandinho, giving the opportunity for forwards to run at John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, who struggled on numerous occasions throughout the game.
For the first goal, Otamendi gave Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain too much space to get in behind and score. Punching the floor in frustration, it was clear the Argentine knew he should have done better.
In addition, for the second goal Firmino out-strengthed Stones which, if you compare the physical stature of the two players, is something the 6ft 2in England defender should never have allowed to happen.
City will now have to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, but thankfully will still have a 12-point-cushion even if their city rivals Manchester United win against Stoke on Monday.
