Bale will miss yet another match when Madrid face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday. The Welshman will be left out the squad after picking up a knock towards the end of the clash with Fuenlabrada, in which he made his return from injury to play 30 minutes, adding yet another negative chapter to his story at Los Blancos.
With this latest injury, Bale has now suffered 19 since arriving at the Bernabeu back in 2013. 19 times his career in Madrid has come to a halt, each one with its own causes and recovery time, usually longer than expected. Since leaving Tottenham, Bale has picked up a reputation of being made of glass, but Madrid knew what they were getting themselves in for when they signed him.
In his last six seasons in the Premier League with Spurs, Bale suffered 24 injuries. Five more than he has done so far at Madrid, although he has only been representing Los Merengues for four and a half seasons.
The numbers are no coincidence, and it demonstrates clearly that Bale has suffered from injury problems throughout his football career. It's worth nothing that absences due to injury aren't counted here, so a simple cold doesn't count as an injury.
So, Bale arrived in Spain having missed 38% of the matches he could have played in for Tottenham, and a similar figure has come from his time at Madrid, where he has not played in 36% of matches. Even so, Florentino decided to sign the Welshman, whose Madrid career has been a story of injury after injury.
