The 17-year-old has received rave reviews since his Man of the Match display in City's 2-0 defeat to United in Houston last week
Pep Guardiola in particular waxed lyrical over the youngster, saying that he didn't have the words to describe his performance.
"I don't have words. I would like to have the right words to describe what I saw. You are the lucky guys who saw the first game, for the first team for Manchester City, of this guy," he enthused.
Guardiola also hinted that Foden may be part of the City first team squad this season, saying: "He will stay training with us in the pre-season and maybe he'll stay with us in season because he's special." Nevertheless Neville is sceptical about his first team opportunities with City saying that the player would be better off at United.
The former Valencia boss took to Twitter to give his opinions on the matter. "He's at the wrong Manchester club for getting a sustained opportunity. City have a lot of great kids. They should be playing," he asserted.
The former England international also said that "Winning trophies and playing young players isn't an either / or!!"
It certainly seems that more United youngster have made the breakthrough in recent seasons. It will be worth seeing if Guardiola keeps his promise to keep Foden around the first team squad this season.
