The directors at the Catalan club have a pre-agreement in place to sign the Colombia centre-back, with the aim of strengthening their defensive ranks from the start of 2018.
Yerry Mina was permanently on Barcelona's radar after some impressive performances at Palmeiras, and even through everything has been agreed for the 23-year-old to arrive at the Camp Nou in January, Valverde has reportedly brought a halt to Mina's arrival.
This is according to the aforementioned source, as they point out that this situation has come about because Valverde is doubting whether the signing would benefit his side, who are currently top of La Liga and have enjoyed a perfect start to their Champions League campaign.
The Barcelona boss reportedly does not think Yerry Mina is ready to make the step up to European football, so it appears unlikely that the Palmeiras defender will be coming to Barcelona after the new year.
