The French international looks set to miss three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.
It appears that Barcelona's comeback victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday came at a cost, after the club's official website confirmed the news on Monday that the French forward has suffered a "hamstring injury of the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh that does not affect the area operated on earlier in the season".
Whilst the news that the injury is unrelated to the one suffered by the youngster earlier in this season, this new problem will be the source of much frustration for the Catalans.
Dembele was forced to undergo surgery earlier in the campaign after suffering a similar injury against Getafe back in September, but hopes had been high that the former Borussia Dortmund man could finally cement his place in the side after returning to fitness following the winter break.
It hasn't been the ideal start to life in La Liga for the 20-year-old, having made just seven appearances for his new club since his big-money summer move.
A three-to-four week absence could see Dembele miss four league matches (against Real betis, Alaves, Espanyol and Getafe) as well as the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Espanyol. However, he should be back for for the first leg of the Champions League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 20.
Dembele has missed twenty games through injury during his brief spell at the club so far, meaning that he is yet to get off the mark for his new side in front of goal.
To add insult to injury for Barca, midfielder Andres Iniesta is also suffering from a calf problem.
